Snackspert tests Zaanse mayonnaise’s metchup and this is what he thinks

Zaanse metchup

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise than blood in his body, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. Today, read what Snackspert thinks of metchup.

Zaanse Mayonnaise’s Metchup

Finally got to properly test it: Zaanse mayonnaise’s metchup. Mayonnaise and ketchup in one tube. Ideal if you’re at a festival and want to continue the centuries-old tradition of eating frankfurters for breakfast. But I have to admit something: I’ve tested this product before. It has only happened once before in the history of this page, but I need to set the record straight. I tested the metchup two years ago, but wasn’t very positive about it then. Two years ago, we were still living in the panicky COVID situation and there were no festivals, so the circumstances in which I tested the product weren’t ideal. Now they are. Because metchup is actually a genius product for festivals. Never buy two tubes again—just buy one. And go for it. The mayonnaise-to-ketchup ratio is exactly equal. Isn’t that wonderful? What an amazing invention. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Frikandel with jalapeño cheese tomato sauce and other snacks, Kwalitaria

Yes, that above is a frikandel with jalapeño cheese tomato sauce. Let me address the elephant in the room right away, because you’re probably lazily scrolling through your timeline too and suddenly see that strange snack. Kwalitaria has launched its summer range, and may I ask for a resounding round of applause for a new frikandel variation? While we have 1,000 types of croquettes, we actually have very few frikandel variations. And although it looks like a monster from Stranger Things, this new frikandel variation is genuinely very tasty. The heat of the jalapeño, a cheese sauce that isn’t too bland poured over it, and some tomato sauce on top—simply very delicious. I’m pleasantly surprised. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I could discuss the other snacks (pikanto, cheese soufflé and fries) at length, but I suspect the interest lies solely in the frikandel. Never mind. The snacks were fine, although the fries really could have been crispier—Kwalitaria needs to come up with something for that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hamburger and snacks from Bierkantine, Amsterdam East

New hotspot in Amsterdam East: Bierkantine. Yes, if you live in Utrecht, you naturally know this place—a very nice one, incidentally—where you can drink delicious specialty beers. And their menu isn’t bad either. The double smash burger is really nice: the cheese is nicely melted, the meat is deliciously thin and therefore wonderfully tender, although I still don’t know whether the smoked ketchup is a hit or not—it gave it more of a tapenade flavour. A little too sour. But then again, regular ketchup would have been boring. I understand the intention, but perhaps adding mayonnaise (or a variation thereof) would have been a good idea. It’s all about balance. A hamburger is like a seesaw: when the flavours are balanced, the hamburger on one side and the consumer on the other are both happy. Or something. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Then there are the bites you can order beforehand: let me deal with the standout right away. The deep-fried beef cheeks (listed on the menu as ox cheeks) are genuinely brilliant. What a wonderfully deep, amorous flavour that makes your tongue flirt as if you were in a hellish Temptation Island episode. Wow wow wow. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The spareribs and chicken wings were also very tasty, but didn’t have the X factor that Jaap Reesema did during the first season. Simply tasty, that’s all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½
