Snackspert: the A-Maize-Ing Ribs are terrible, but Freddy Fryday is amazing

Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, known in mayonnaise-dipped circles as Eke Bosman, shares his sour experience with A-Maize-Ing Ribs this week, but fortunately also has a golden tip for you: Freddy Fryday’s loaded fries are worth four stars.

It can’t always be a party—not in snack land either. Sometimes you have to bite through the sour apple—in this case: corn. Fortunately, there are loaded fries at the end of the tunnel.

What a cool idea they came up with these days! Small pieces of corn in a package, calling it ribs and then selling it as a snack. I was actually interested in how it turned out, because corn can be very tasty as a snack. Like they do at Camino in Antwerp; with cheese on top and a spicy Korean sauce on the side. That gives corn a really snack-like flavor, but what the brand Snack with Benefits has done with this corn is, sorry for saying it so bluntly, a failure of creativity. The corn is juicy, sure, but I don’t see any added value here. What’s next, putting pieces of bell pepper in a far-too-hip box and selling it? It’s a bit like asking a toddler to color in a coloring page, only to discover hours later that the toddler hasn’t done anything with it at all. Such a disappointment, you know. ⭐️

Loaded fries, Freddy Fryday, Amsterdam

By now, you can safely say that Freddy Fryday is gradually becoming a household name in the capital; I know of few loaded fries places in the country that can keep going. What I often find with loaded fries is that the gimmick wears off quickly: you try a flavor once, and a month later you don’t need to eat it again. Maybe you disagree with me, but I think there are few loaded fries styles that have staying power. The kapsalon, the original loaded fries, is a good example. Or the fries with stew, actually. But anyway, what I’m saying is this: in my opinion, Freddy Fryday’s pulled chicken is also a keeper. The chicken is mildly spicy and could have been a little more tender, but the flavor is good. That’s because of the combination of spring onions, honey and mozzarella. Yes, mozzarella! A very good addition, deliciously creamy but not too salty. Well, these loaded fries make more of an impression than the Netherlands–Gibraltar match. But that’s only logical. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
