Snackspert: ‘This is everything that’s wrong with society’

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there’s more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week.

Genuinely insanely good
Burger, fries and meatballs, RAMONA Amsterdam
First of all: I really need a new phone that can at least take decent photos in the dark, because now it looks more like I ate a burger in the darkroom of some NOS News presenter, but that’s simply not true. I ate this burger from the Rotisserie at café RAMONA—it’s next to the burger joint—and yes, it’s their world-famous Royale with Cheese. Reviewed about four years ago, but still magical in 2020. The bun is different from last time, and that’s a positive development, because eating it now feels like being hugged by Donald Duck at Disneyland while you’ve just been on the Tower of Terror. The melted cheddar is perfect, the meat is exceptionally tender, and there’s a generous amount of pickle on it. You can really wake me up for that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The meatballs with tomato sauce and lots of Parmesan are delicious too, but they’re missing that one X factor that briefly makes you feel like you’re in Disneyland. That’s not a problem—you can’t always roll a Yahtzee. The meatballs could be a little more tender, in my opinion, but the flavor is really good. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genuinely insanely good
Salami pizza, New York Pizza

Normally, at places like New York Pizza and Domino’s, I order pizzas that get cursed by Italians, such as shawarma pizza or cheeseburger pizza—simply because they’re deliciously disgusting. But for once, let me order a classic from New York Pizza! And preferably with my all-time favorite ingredient: salami. Just a salami pizza, the 25-centimeter one. But you know what? It’s not the best 25 cm you’ll ever get in your mouth; it’s simply perfectly edible. True fast food, because after blinking twice, the pizza was already gone. Sometimes you have those days when you don’t care what you eat, as long as you eat something. Then this salami pizza is a perfectly decent option: decent tomato sauce, decent salami, decent crust. It doesn’t compare to the real Italian stuff or the pizzas in real New York, but luckily that doesn’t matter. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bin fodder
Cheese bacon fries, Burger King
This is really one of those cases where you match with someone super attractive on Tinder and then they look so disappointing on the date. These cheese bacon fries from Burger King are everything that’s wrong with society, because although they looked incredibly pornographic in BK’s own photo, reality is a little more like a sexless position. The bacon is really nothing more than very limp bits of bacon, and the cheddar is bland—so bland that André van Duin called to say that this level of blandness really isn’t acceptable anymore. The fries are okay, sure, but the disappointment I felt was so huge that I can do nothing but give them the lowest score. ⭐️
