Seriously divine
Klapstuk burger, Simon de Wit in Amsterdam

Naturally, you want to treat yourself to the very best, especially when it comes to food, but I still feel a little guilty every time I recommend something here again. As if bad food doesn’t exist in the world. You also just feel like a roast review, but recently I treated myself to a visit to Simon de Wit in Amsterdam, where I had one of the best lunches in ages. I’m sorry, but it was simply incredibly good. I want to hate it, but I only hate the fact that it’s so delicious. Can’t something be disappointing for once? No, when you visit a place that was partly created thanks to Hotmamahot, you can assume that you’re going to enjoy yourself. The klapstuk burger you see here is such a gift to your mouth that you consider never French-kissing again, and you may be just as happy as Ivo Niehe is with himself that you’re allowed to eat this. The beef brisket (klapstuk, that is) was cooked for 18 hours, and you can tell; unbelievably tender, with a wonderfully deep, dark flavour that reminds you of your grandma’s/grandpa’s stewed meat. The cheddar is subtly melted so it doesn’t feel plastic, but rather like an embrace from Baby Yoda. The coleslaw provides a fresh balance, and the brioche bun is exceptionally good. I actually have nothing negative to say, so that’s five full stars for this little gem. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Farmers’ frikandel, Lidl

A thick shaft like that in your mouth may not be healthy, but it’s definitely a thousand times tastier than something from your butt. You get it. Lidl now has a fine shaft: the Hollandsche boeren frikandel. And one thing immediately stood out to me: the size of the frikandel. It’s slightly thicker, but less long. Now I know that length doesn’t matter when it comes to fully enjoying such a pleasure stick, but I did find it striking. Fortunately, there is little negative to say about the taste. Once it’s out of the deep fryer (oven, air fryer, deep fryer—it all works with these frikandellen), it tastes exactly as it should: very good, just as a frikandel ought to taste. Because of its thickness, it’s a little firmer, and I like that. Before you ask: hey, but then it’s just a minced-meat stick, right?? Here’s the answer: no, the minced-meat stick has a more neutral flavour. End of story. This is a very good, substantial frikandel. You don’t just throw that on the ground; you put it in your mouth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cheesesteak sandwich, Snackbar Beo in Laren

snackspert

I know that Snackbar Beo in Laren is a household name in ‘t Gooi, and yes, they really do have an excellent hot roast beef sandwich and a frikandel sandwich with mayo. They have a good reputation, but recently I picked up my lunch there and it was simply disappointing. Really! Yes, it can happen, of course, but I still have to be honest. You’re not looking at the excrement of an influencer with 420,000 followers now, but at a cheesesteak sandwich. And unfortunately, it doesn’t meet the requirements. In my opinion, the roasted beef is too tough, the melted cheese is almost set even though it should be wonderfully sticky and creamy, and the mushrooms, fried onion and bell pepper mainly have a flavour that’s too neutral to make any difference. Maybe it’ll be much better next time, but today it still failed to deliver. What a shame. ⭐️⭐️
