So delicious: you can now buy fresh churros at Lidl

It’s Spanish and Portuguese specialities week at Lidl again, and do you know what they now have in their range? Fresh, crispy, golden-brown churros with sugar, ready to dip at home in hot chocolate. YUM!

Churros are sometimes called Spanish doughnuts, but did you know that churros aren’t actually Spanish at all? They originally come from China; the Chinese breakfast dish youtiao is the precursor to churros. They made their way to Spain via Portugal, and from there the journey to Lidl’s fresh-food section suddenly becomes very short.

Dip them in some hot chocolate (or even better: thick chocolate sauce), close your eyes, put on some Spanish music and simply forget for a moment that you’re sitting here in the rain and not on a playa somewhere along the Spanish coast.

How much do churros cost at Lidl?

You pay just under one euro for 3 pieces. Well, actually you do pay one euro, because they cost 0.99 cents. But in Spain they still use euro cents, so the circle is once again complete. Churros are at their very best when freshly baked. But would you like to keep the churros? For example, because you bought an extra-large batch? Then store them in an airtight container for 2 days.
