So that’s what the handle on cutting boards is for!

I’m filing this revelation under ‘mind blown’, because did you know what that ‘handle’ on many cutting boards is used for? I had no idea what I was looking at…

And I’m someone who cooks really often, and who has had quite a lot of cutting boards under my knife in professional kitchens too. I never gave it much thought, but I must have had a fleeting thought at some point like “that’s a bit of a strange shape to hang something from, but whatever”, or “how much effort does it really take to just pick up a board from the side..?”
Rolling onto the floor
And I have definitely experienced countless times that the carrot, spring onion or leek rings I’d painstakingly sliced into thin pieces (especially the round things) would just, whoosh, roll off the board and onto the floor when I tried to sweep them into a pan or bowl while holding it at an angle. But guess what?
Keep it in there
You can use that hole to push your sliced ingredients through and neatly into the pan, bowl or container! Since it’s always smaller than the width of the board, the chances of scattering everything all over the place are much lower. Now that’s a tip you can actually use! Instead of telling people to fry meatballs in egg cartons, or open cans with spoons…

Sharing is caring
So: wow. Did you all know this and keep it secret from me all this time? Tsk… Just know that we’re never too reluctant to share our tips and hacks and do’s & don’ts with you, and that’s how we like helping each other move forward!
