In the brand-new corner building Merckt on Groningen’s Grote Markt, the all-encompassing concept FoodMerckt will open in a few months, where you can go from early morning until late at night. And if the rumours are to be believed, this will become Groningen’s new living room. Intended for everyone who enjoys good food, drinks and conviviality.

Wine bar and brewpub

What can you do there? Spread over three floors, one of which is underground, there will be many different hospitality concepts. For example, there will be a wine bar with a spectacular wine robot that pours your favourite wine from a supersonic wine cabinet. The cabinet has a capacity of approximately 1,300 to 1,500 bottles and can serve poured glasses or even entire bottles across the bars on all three floors. FoodMerckt will also feature a brewpub where you can drink locally brewed beer. This beer will be brewed in full view of everyone in the gleaming, polished vats located across several floors.

From Italian to Thai and Indian

And of course, there will be no shortage of food either: how about a Latin American food stand serving meat dishes prepared on the parilla? Or food stands offering Moroccan, Thai, Indian, Italian and Greek culinary creations? Or the trusted Dutch fresh fries, a cheese and charcuterie concept, tapas… and this is only part of the selection…

Mobile barista

FoodMerckt will also feature flexible workspaces, a SuperMerckt (supermarket), a hairdresser and even a mobile barista riding around on a scooter. Also worth seeing: Mofongo’s Distillery’s second distillery for whisky, malt wine and rum, which you can then buy in the liquor store on the underground floor.

Rooftop bar

Finally, there will be a coffee roastery in collaboration with Tiktak, a rooftop bar with a convertible roof and an innovative laboratory where new recipes and ingredients from around the world are experimented with. It’s clear: you won’t get bored at FoodMerckt! The initiator of FoodMerckt is Patrick Beijk, also the owner of the remarkable Mr. Mofongo in Groningen.
