Starbucks is stopping sales of this remarkable drink
Starbucks has not been afraid to experiment with unusual coffees for years. The ultimate example: the pork-flavored coffee they sell in China. The Starbucks Oleato also fits into that category. Why? Well, this coffee contains a generous splash of olive oil. You don’t see that every day either, do you? At Starbucks, you won’t be seeing the drink much longer, as the chain is removing it from the menu.
In any case, the chances that you have ordered the Starbucks Oleato in the Netherlands are already practically zero. It was never on the Starbucks menu here in the first place. The drink was introduced at Starbucks in Italy in early 2023, and later made its way to the United States, Canada and major global cities such as London, Paris and Tokyo. From November 7, the remarkable drink will no longer be available at the world’s best-known coffee chain.
Letting everything run its course
In itself, coffee with olive oil is not such a crazy idea at all. It makes your coffee incredibly creamy, as we wrote earlier. Nevertheless, sales of Starbucks Oleato coffee—with extra virgin olive oil—did not exactly take off. Quite a few people complained on social media about… bowel movements that worked a little too well. Yep, according to quite a few tasters, they experienced a laxative effect after drinking Starbucks’ olive oil coffee. Pretty awkward when you’re on your way to work. Or when you went out for a coffee with your date.
A new direction for Starbucks
The news came to light after news agency Bloomberg got hold of an internal Starbucks memo. We can expect more changes to Starbucks’ menu in the near future, by the way. The new CEO, Brian Niccol, plans to simplify the Starbucks menu. Terms such as ‘overly complicated’ are now being used when discussing it. Exactly what we will soon have to say goodbye to is not entirely clear yet. In any case, rumors suggest that the coffee with toffee nut syrup is also disappearing. To be continued.
