The best (Christmas) outfits to be able to eat as much as possible

With the holidays in sight, you know there are two things on the agenda: dressing up and eating. But those two don’t always go together very well. Unless you follow our tips!

Sure, that one blouse or those beautiful trousers are lovely, but by the end of your 5-course meal you’d rather put on your sweatpants or at least undo a button. Sound familiar? Luckily, we’re experienced in this department, so I have some handy tips in store for you.

Tip 1:

Elastic, elastic and more elastic. Yes guys, elastic is the magic word. Trousers? Preferably with some stretch in them and, if possible, an elastic waistband too. Shirt? Here too, a stretchy fabric can make all the difference in terms of comfort. It simply gives you more room. Do make sure you already have some space before you start eating. Tight elastic is anything but pleasant, and you’d rather eat a roulade than be one.

Tip 2:

Oversized is hip and wonderfully comfortable because it gives you: all the room you and your full belly need. Big skirts, big sweaters (nice and warm too), big dresses, big trousers. Let it all flow (yes, your belly too). Your trousers don’t need to be undone because they already hang loosely, and even if they do need undoing, that big shirt will hide your open buttons. Winning. Need inspiration? Our northern neighbours are masters at wearing oversized clothes stylishly. It’s not called the ‘Scandi look’ for nothing.

Tip 3:

Choose the right waistline. Remember when babydolls were fashionable for a while? Those tops that fit snugly around your breasts and then flare out. I-de-al for dinners: a beautiful décolleté and plenty of room to let your belly expand. This doesn’t only apply to babydolls, by the way, but to anything with what’s known as an ‘Empire waist’.

Tip 4:

Jogging chic sounds contradictory, but it exists and it’s fantastic. Think: the sweatpants you’d actually like to wear, but with the appearance of the trousers you’re supposed to wear. No way! Come on, surely that’s exactly what you want? Add a beautiful wool sweater and you’re all set. More in the mood for glitter and glamour than chic? Then these Kappa sequin trousers are truly the ultimate.

Tip 5:

Following on from jogging chic: pyjamas for going out. You can get inspiration from our great friend Freddy Tratlehner, who’s a master at strutting around in these silk and satin printed trousers and blousons. Matching or mixed: anything goes. Add some brothel creepers and you’re all set.
