The Double Big Mac is coming back to McDonald’s… But not here yet
Well, I’m really disappointed about this. Of course I’m trying to stay hopeful, but things aren’t looking too good so far… Let’s start with the good news: the Double Big Mac is coming back. And now the bad news: not here. In America, it’s making a comeback after being gone for four years. As you can imagine, this is a seriously massive burger, because instead of the two beef patties, you get four.
But hey, the more Big Mac, the better — so I am disappointed that we’re not getting it in the Netherlands.
Do we still remember it?
In March 2020 — yes, right when corona took over the world — the Double Big Mac was introduced. It didn’t quite get the appreciation it deserved at the time, because many McDonald’s locations around the world had to close. So it makes perfect sense that it’s getting a second chance now, although I do miss its ‘little’ sibling.
Because in March 2020, the Little Mac was also added to the menu, and that’s an item I genuinely don’t understand wasn’t made a permanent fixture. This Little Mac had one beef patty instead of two, and two pieces of bun instead of three. So basically, it was a kind of cheeseburger, but much tastier, with the familiar Big Mac sauce, plenty of lettuce, pickles and better buns. Seriously, how ridiculous that they didn’t keep it on the menu permanently?! Ideal if you’re craving that Big Mac flavor but don’t necessarily feel like consuming more than 500 calories.
Double Big Mac: only in the United States
So in the Netherlands, we’re getting the short end of the stick: no Little Mac, but no Double Mac either. This gigantic burger will only be available in the United States for a limited time, starting this week. But who knows, maybe it will make its way to the Netherlands someday, because if McDonald’s CEO had his way (what a dream job), the Double Big Mac is here to stay: he told CNN that he is seeing growing consumer demand for beef.
