The latest plant-based milk is potato milk

Oat milk, soy milk, spelt milk: yes, we know those. In Sweden, there’s a small company that makes plant-based milk from… potatoes. Smart, because more than enough potatoes grow here!

The Swedish company Veg of Lund makes healthy food products from locally sourced ingredients. On their website, they explain that you could eat nothing but potatoes your entire life and still remain healthy, because those spuds are little vitamin bombs. Vitamins, minerals, protein and carbohydrates too—a potato is the complete package. And they make milk from it.

Foam for your latte

The potato milk comes in a milk carton and is called Dug. Very sustainable, say the milk innovators. Besides potato, the milk also contains pea protein, as well as rapeseed oil and some natural flavourings and added vitamins such as vitamin D, B12 and folic acid. Of course, it contains no lactose, and no sugar is added either. There is also a special barista version, which you can use to make a nice, firm foam for your latte.

Order online

Sadly, Dug cartons aren’t available in Dutch supermarkets yet; for now, the milk can only be ordered via Amazon.
