The Mussel Walk 2025 is coming: tickets now on sale

After years of slurping oysters at the Oyster Walk, it’s now time for its hearty, juicy cousin: the mussel. Mark Saturday, 23 August in your calendar, because Utrecht will host the very first Mussel Walk that day. Five restaurants, various mussel preparations and a route full of surprises. This is your new favourite food tour, with shells.

From oyster to mussel: time for a comeback

The Oyster Walk has been organised by Shannice Wilner and Leonne Stentler since 2021, but now they’re branching out to another iconic shellfish. And rightly so, because while oysters have been growing in popularity for years, mussels are struggling. The classic pot of mussels is on the decline, and young people often no longer know what to do with a mussel (tip: make mussel rendang!) Time to change that!

What is the Mussel Walk?

The Mussel Walk is a cheerful and delicious city walk through Utrecht, taking you to five restaurants that each prepare mussels in their own way. Three times you’ll get a full-sized pot of mussels, and twice a mussel amuse-bouche with a drink. Along the way, you’ll learn fun mussel facts, take part in a quiz and enjoy a beautiful route through the city. A win-win, then, because with this initiative Shannice not only shows how versatile mussels are, but also gives local hospitality businesses a platform. Win-win!

Start at Concours; the rest is still a secret

The walk starts between 12:00 and 14:00 at restaurant Concours, and ends in the city centre at 17:00. Which other restaurants are taking part remains a surprise for now, but insiders know: there are some gems among them.
