The Netherlands has a new world record with the largest-ever CHEESE BOARD
We love a well-stocked cheese board. Those creamy, runny cheeses… blue cheeses and fresh goat cheeses—delicious! An added benefit: eating cheese keeps you smart and helps you live longer; no wonder it’s highly addictive, right? So naturally, we were thrilled about the world’s largest cheese board!
Since this weekend, the Dutch city of Woerden has held the world record for the world’s largest cheese board. The previous record, set four years ago when an American city claimed the honor, has been comprehensively beaten.
175 different types of cheese
The Woerden cheese board was an astonishing 13 meters long, filled with 175 different types of cheese (!) stacked up to a meter high and weighing a combined total of around 2,716 kilos. Quite a board, then, which the residents of Woerden were able to sample generously.
The initiative for the gigantic cheese board came from Agrarisch Centrum Woerden. Cees Verburg of Verburg kaas was one of the cheesemongers who quietly helped prepare everything over the past six weeks. “It was a hell of a job, but well worth the effort,” Cees told the AD.
Cheese-board city #1
The aim was to show what the city of Woerden has to offer when it comes to cheese, and it succeeded remarkably well. With such huge quantities of cheese, it was inevitable that some would be left over, but that was donated to the food bank. The record, officially confirmed by The Guinness Book of Records, puts Woerden on the map worldwide as the number-one cheese-board city—a world-class achievement!
