The new restaurant Larette is a great addition to Amsterdam-Oost

Larette Amsterdam

Start spreading the news: Amsterdam-Oost has gained another hotspot: Restaurant & Bar Larette. Here you can enjoy delicious food, drinks (cocktails!) and dancing until deep into the night.

‘You really should eat at @larette_amsterdam sometime’, someone told me. ‘The staff are super fun and the food is really good!’ The perfect recommendation, so off we went.

Unusual name

Larette is located in Amsterdam-Oost (Zeeburg, around the corner from The Harbour Club) and was inspired by New York’s Meatpacking District, one of NYC’s trendiest neighborhoods. And the name? It is a combination of Laurence (the cocktail master), Rex (chef de cuisine) and Texas (concept developer), the three owners who grew up together in Amsterdam.

Besides their friendship, they share a passion for good food and drinks. They had already run several pop-up hospitality concepts together in Amsterdam, and their food truck, Boom Chicka Bun Bun, can be found at festivals throughout the Netherlands.

Easy vibe

And now they have their own place: Larette. The venue is quite large, with a spacious dining area, a lounge area and a large cocktail bar. Yet it still feels easy to navigate. It is bright and pleasantly laid out. And particularly striking: the great music throughout the evening and the laid-back atmosphere. The guests are diverse, ranging from groups of twenty-somethings to couples in their fifties.

Japanese milk bread and crispy fish

The menu is nicely concise and, just like New York, a melting pot of culinary influences. From Irish oysters, steak tartare and pointed cabbage with kimchi beurre blanc, to Hokkaido bread (Japanese milk bread resembling brioche) with whipped tarragon butter and fish roe, butterfly sea bream with beurre blanc and an absolute killer of a T-bone steak. Everything is perfectly prepared and packed with flavor. They certainly do not hold back on butter and salt here, and the enthusiasm and love of food shines from every plate.

Cocktails

Besides very tasty food, you can also enjoy very tasty cocktails here. At your table or at the 12.5-meter-long Manhattan cocktail bar, you can sit down for a Manhattan, Cosmopolitan or New York Sour. Larette is also a great choice for non-alcoholic cocktails.

Weekly SoHo Nights

Such an incredible cocktail bar and atmosphere call for a party. That is why they organize the so-called SoHo Nights every week. To kick off the weekend, the resident DJ takes over the playlist every Friday evening at around 22:00, and the party continues into the early hours. Larette is open from Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 17:00 – 01:00, and Friday and Saturday from 17:00 – 03:00. For reservations of more than 8 people, there is a fixed Shared Dining menu.
