The world’s largest cruise ship is ready and it has gone absolutely crazy
It’s been on my bucket list for years: a vacation on a cruise ship. And I believe I’ve found the ship of my dreams. Cruising on the largest cruise ship ever built: Icon of the Seas will embark on its maiden voyage in early 2024. Sign me up!
Just to emphasize how enormous this behemoth really is: it is five times the size of the Titanic, 365 meters long, has 20 decks and can accommodate approximately 10,000 people: 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members. Insanely huge, right?
A cruise like that sounds wonderfully relaxing and very special to me. But it has to include absolutely everything, of course. So lots of restaurants where you can eat, beautiful swimming pools (preferably with water slides too) and, naturally, a bingo hall. I simply can’t imagine a cruise ship without bingo. Well, the Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, definitely has all that. All those things and much, much more.
40 dining venues
Aside from the fact that almost 10,000 people can sleep on board, there’s also all sorts of things to do. In fact, you could stay here for a month and still not have tried all the restaurants. There are 40 dining venues. In addition, there are seven swimming pools, six gigantic water slides, nine wave pools, a waterfall… And that makes this ship the largest water park at sea.
An… ice rink?
But swimming aside, there is of course much, much more to do here. There’s an AquaDome where you can hang out during the day and where shows are held in the evening, cocktail bars, an arcade, a shopping mall and… an ice rink. Sorry, but doesn’t this sound absolutely a-ma-zing?! I just haven’t seen anything about bingo yet, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t have it in this floating city. What I do know is that there is at least a karaoke bar, and I’m already very happy about that.
And now the saving can begin, because of course I want to stay here for two months… And even then I fear I still won’t have done everything. Tickets for a cruise start at 981 dollars per person, but that’s for just seven nights. You depart from Miami and then sail past various islands in the Caribbean for a week, including a private island in the Bahamas owned by Royal Caribbean. Not a bad vacation, huh?
