There is cheese made from human nose, belly button and armpit bacteria

If you have a cheese board on the menu for tonight, you might not want to read any further. Or maybe you do, if you’re an adventurous eater. But GROSS, this is really disgusting. Cheese can of course be very approachable, or very intense, or anything in between. Made from goat’s milk, cow’s milk, even breast milk (which is already a step too far for me). But this… Warning: nauseating info incoming.

So there is a cheese… made from human nose, belly button and armpit bacteria. No worries, you won’t suddenly find it on your plate without knowing it.
“The Human Cheese”
That is the name of this nauseating product, which can be seen at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Yes, you read that right: you can’t just order it from your local cheesemonger. Thank God. It would definitely lead to some really weird bets. The cheese was made by Christina Agapakis and Sissel Tolaas, two artists I find it hard to imagine are true cheese lovers.

“Selfmade”
Their project is called “Selfmade”, and above you can see what the cheese looks like. Well, I have to be honest… It doesn’t even look that intense? A little spongy. I can imagine it tastes quite light. Incidentally, the two artists came up with this idea because the bacteria used to make cheese have a lot in common with human bacteria. Do you think they tasted a piece themselves?
A fun detail is that all the bacteria were collected from British celebrities. So maybe you have a little David Beckham in your mouth. Or Prince Harry. Kate Middleton. No, okay, those celebs probably weren’t willing to take part in this… Not nauseated enough yet? Then check out the video below.
