These are the most expensive products in the world

Densuke watermeloen

A crispy piece of baguette with foie gras, blinis with caviar or shaved white truffle over pasta: these are all products that taste incredibly delicious, but come with a hefty price tag. Besides foie gras, caviar and white truffle, these 10 products also sell for bizarre amounts.

Nakazawa milk

Nakazawa milk is not just any milk. It comes from a Japanese cow that is milked only once a week, at the precisely calculated moment, so that the milk contains more melatonin (which is said to help reduce stress). It is therefore hardly surprising that the price for 1 liter of milk is around 50 euros: about thirty times more than a carton of milk in our supermarkets…

Coffin Bay King oyster

The world’s most expensive oyster grows at an oyster farm in southern Australia. The Coffin Bay King oyster grows for an average of seven years and is therefore enormous. In addition to its size, its age also gives this oyster a unique flavor, while the meat is firm and juicy. For one oyster, which can quickly weigh a kilo, you pay approximately 60 euros.

Wagyu

FavorFlav’s Sharon once attended a genuine Wagyu dinner. A dinner at which this heavenly piece of meat was given the full spotlight, because its rich flavor and super-soft texture make Wagyu quite exceptional. Wagyu comes in different classifications (from A to C). Wagyu with the highest classification (A) costs around 170 euros per kilo.

Matcha

Matcha, the green tea from Japan, is available in many different price ranges. The greener the matcha, the better the quality and therefore the flavor. Cheap matcha is often powder used as a coloring agent in cakes or ice cream. Matcha tea, on the other hand, is of much better quality, with the finest matcha bearing the ceremonial label. Half a kilo of Ceremonial Matcha costs approximately 200 euros.

To’ak chocolate

The most expensive chocolate bar in the world: these premium bars sell for 450 euros! To’ak chocolate consists of 73% pure cacao and is made entirely in Ecuador. Because the chocolate is aged in old cognac and whiskey barrels, it acquires a very special flavor that cannot be compared with any other chocolate.

Vanilla

After saffron, vanilla is the most expensive spice in the world. Because growing and harvesting vanilla is extremely difficult and labor-intensive, you pay quite a lot for vanilla from Madagascar. The vanilla must also dry for several months. The production process from start to finish takes about a year. For a kilo of the highest-quality vanilla, you can easily pay around 300 euros.

Manuka honey

It may cost a bit, but then you get something in return. Honey from Manuka shrubs is said to cure just about everything. The nectar for this special honey comes from the Manuka, a native shrub found only in New Zealand. Manuka is known for its powerful antibacterial properties—it is related to the well-known Tea Tree—and this makes the honey not only delicious, but also beneficial. You can pay hundreds of euros for a jar of this special honey. A lot of imitation Manuka honey is sold, so if you want a jar in your kitchen cupboard, always check whether the honey bears the UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) logo.

La Bonnotte potatoes

You might think potatoes do not belong on this list, but the La Bonnotte potato variety is certainly one of the most expensive products in the world. The potatoes come from France and are sometimes sold for more than 400 euros per kilo. Because the potatoes grow only in the mineral-rich soil of a small French island and are in season for just one week a year, they are the most expensive potatoes in the world.

Donkey cheese

Cheese made from donkey’s milk: it exists. This creamy, smoked white cheese comes from Siberia and is a true delicacy. Because the cheese is made from the milk of an endangered donkey species and 25 liters of milk are needed for 1 kilo, this delicacy costs 1,000 euros per kilo. These days, the cheese is made only to order.

The Densuke watermelon

Fruit can also be quite pricey. This watermelon from Japan is one of the most expensive pieces of fruit in the world. Only a few thousand of these black-skinned watermelons are available each year, and they have an intensely sweet flavor and a crisp bite. In 2008, the Densuke watermelon was sold for a record amount of approximately 6,000 euros (yes, for a single watermelon!).
