They don’t do any harm, but they are gigantic: the Avozilla giant avocados

Many of us are familiar with the downright fickle nature of that fat green diva: the avocado. How an avocado can keep you waiting for days (including those supposedly ‘ready-to-eat’ f*ckers), only to casually go from rock-hard to completely rotten within two minutes; say goodbye to your one and a half euros. But all is forgiven when you finally find a perfect specimen right at its peak again, so soft and creamy and delicious… and just look at this one!

Because when you do have such a dream avocado, the only problem may be that at most two people can eat it, three if you’re really stingy. Well, not with this monster! If you follow the supermarket’s serving advice, TEN people can eat from this one…
Monster fruit
The green monster is so huge that they actually named it the Avozilla – after the fictional dinosaur monster Godzilla. But the avo version is a lot friendlier, mind you; at most, it wants to mutate into guacamole for a whole group of people. And where does this cheerful freak of nature come from?
International type
From South Africa, and what’s remarkable is that this giant variety grows on only a relatively small number of trees for a few weeks a year. That makes them mega-exclusive and highly sought-after, and the British supermarket chain Tesco has sold out its entire stock directly for several years in a row now.

Best bargain
The Avozillas are also a bargain, because you pay just four British pounds for one enormous unit. That’s only forty pence (okay, pennies) per person, try finding that in the Netherlands! With a bit of luck, you can get beautiful avocados cheaply at the market or at a Turkish or Moroccan shop, but many people still pay a little more for them.
Unfortunately, by the time we reached a Tesco, the Avozillas would probably already be sold out. But perhaps next year around this time, if we happen to be in London, we’ll queue up for this delicious green wonder! And don’t forget what you can always whisper to an avocado here too: “I’m the good kind of fat too”…
