This chef is the big winner of the Dutch Tastiest Burger Championship with his Bali Burger

NK Lekkerste Burger

Everyone – well, almost everyone – loves hamburgers. After all, a juicy burger between a soft brioche bun, topped with cheddar, creamy sauce and crunchy toppings, is the very definition of comfort food. The tastiest burger? According to the Horecava jury, that is the Bali Burger by Ferliyan Palimbong. He took first place at the Dutch Tastiest Burger Championship.

Dutch Tastiest Burger Championship

Because alongside the Dutch Tastiest Sandwich Championship, burger builders are once again battling it out this year at the Dutch Tastiest Burger Championship at Horecava. Of the nine participants, Ferliyan Palimbong of toko Podomoro in Bunschoten-Spakenburg was the one who managed to convince the jury with his Indonesian ‘Bali burger’. Ferliyan also took first place in 2018 with his Asia Burger.

A real moreish burger

The Bali Burger consists of a spicy Balinese stew, crispy bacon, tomato and cheddar. According to the jury, it is a truly moreish burger, making Ferliyan the clear winner. The ingredients are highly flavourful individually, but perfectly balanced when combined in the burger, according to the jury, who felt that everything about the burger was spot-on: the flavour, juiciness, temperature and mouthfeel. ‘You’re prompted to take the next bite. We actually wanted to eat this burger in its entirety,’ said the jury.

Also on the podium

Berry Wagenaars of Iveau Burger & Wijnbar in Arnhem came second with his ‘Meat The Shrimp’ burger. Third place went to the Japanese burger with pork stew, yuzu gel and wasabi crème by Oskar Boeters of Ter Marsch & Co in Rotterdam.
