It doesn’t sound very tasty, but ROTZOOI is all about ‘rotten’ food. The aim of this festival is to introduce people to fermented food and its possibilities. The festival is organised by fermentation specialists Christian Weij and Meneer Wateetons, and this year marks the fourth edition.

What can you do at this festival?

Have you always dreamed of making your own sourdough bread, fermenting meat or making kefir? Then this is your chance. You’ll also learn how to make kimchi or kombucha. At this festival, you can attend talks about koji rice or tempeh, watch demonstrations and sit back with a film in their Rot cinema.

Hungry? Despite all that ‘rotten stuff’, you can fill your stomach at this festival. You can taste fermented cheeses and nibble on kimchi burgers, with or without a glass of kefir—or, if you’d prefer something a little less experimental, a beer or glass of wine.

The festival takes place on Sunday 26 May at SmaakPark in Ede. Admission is €5, excluding workshops, but including a fermented drink and a Rotzooi drinking glass.
