This is the biggest and most expensive hotdog you can buy (but would you want to?)
There’s nothing particularly wrong with a good, substantial hotdog; in fact, if the meat is delicious and the toppings are just right, a hotdog can be incredibly tasty! Add a beer, or one of those fun Corona Sunrises, and you’ve got a seriously comforting bit of comfort food. But some hotdog makers simply go too far…
We’ve already seen a hotdog topped with gold leaf, a hotdog that actually wants to be a hamburger (or the other way around), and now there’s the ultimate hotdog from one of Boston’s local food institutions, Pauli’s: a hotdog almost two metres long, available to order for an astronomical price. Why??
Topping party
The ‘why’ isn’t entirely clear to us, to be honest. Let’s just call it a massive publicity stunt—and, in any case, something that grabs attention. And although we can’t imagine wanting to take this on, we have to admit that reading through the topping options makes our mouths water. What a choice!
Regional toppings
You can choose from various styles, all named after a region or city: Seattle-style, with cream cheese, jalapeños, sriracha and grilled onion rings; New Jersey-style, with grilled bell pepper, onion, fries, ketchup and mustard; Denver-style, with chopped red onion, green chilli sauce, sour cream and fresh jalapeños; and, as the pièce de résistance, the Pauli Dog: topped with more than a pound of hot lobster in butter sauce, piled on top of all that meat.
Pricey dog
And what would this behemoth cost, should you now be considering flying there and trying to improve your personal hotdog-eating record? SIX HUNDRED dollars. Yep. The whole unit—the entire sausage and the bread around it (which can no longer really be called a bun)—has to be specially made to order. But if you happen to be there with ten of your best friends, or at least ten people you want to share one hotdog with, and you’re willing to pay for it: send us the photos!
