This is the golden tip for that last little bit of peanut butter

Just as in many households nearly empty containers of cheese, cake crumbs, exactly 7.5 ml of milk and completely empty packages are put back in the fridge to drive the next person who finds them completely up the wall (but under the guise of ‘saved for you‘), the jar of peanut butter with the very last bit is often put back in our house too. And that, I’m actually happy about.

Because you can still do something with that nearly empty jar of peanut butter! For example, throw in oats, milk of your choice and pieces of dried fruit for a tasty breakfast the next day, but even better, in our opinion: make a delicious peanut sauce with it!

A savory makeover

Because with what would otherwise be a sad little bit of peanut butter, you can make an incredibly easy and tasty sauce in the blink of an eye (literally) that makes your super-quick meal much more interesting in no time.

How to make an amazingly quick sauce with that leftover peanut butter in the jar

The only thing you really need to remember is the 1:1 ratio of peanut butter to liquid. Warm water works perfectly, and then you’re already halfway to an easy dinner bowl of super-quick noodles with green toppings such as spring onion and cilantro for flavor and fun. But with a few other liquids, you can make it even tastier just as easily! Replace some of the water with an equal amount of mirin and soy sauce or tamari, for example. Or give it a fresh, tangy kick with rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Craving something spicy? The sriracha is calling you from the kitchen cupboard! Scrape the peanut butter down from the sides, add liquid and shake it up.

Bring out that jar

There are so many things you can perk up with this! Those noodles, for example, but also a bowl of perfectly steamed white rice with kimchi and a fried egg, or a super-tasty baguette with leftover roast chicken and a few strips of white cabbage. You know what? I wouldn’t even wait until there’s only a spoonful of peanut butter left in that jar. Once there’s a quarter of a jar left, we give the starting signal: go—then you can keep making that sauce for days!
