Now that’s summer in a bitterbal: you might instantly imagine yourself in the sunny south with the latest version of the familiar deep-fried little ball! (You can read here what our colleague Wieke thinks of how Canadians treat ‘our’ bitterbal…)
What’s the latest addition to the bitterbal family? Hola, paella! Oma Bobs, makers of all kinds of breadcrumbs-coated snacks for the deep fryer (from Thai green curry bites and cheese/arugula croquettes to classic shredded-beef bitterballen), recently launched this new limited edition.
Fish, meat or veggie
The filling consists of rice and shellfish, but if you follow a strict pescatarian diet, you’ll still have to skip them, as the ingredients list does include beef gelatin. Fortunately, there are now plenty of alternatives to the meatball for vegetarians too, such as the Old Amsterdam ball praised by Snackspert. The paella balls have been prepared in a limited edition, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Fiesta complete
At any rate, we can easily imagine having these holiday balls brought out on the terrace or tossing them into the hot oil yourself – add a carafe of tinto de verano and caramba, your summer can begin!
