This product is increasingly missing from the traditional Christmas hamper

The final days of the year are approaching. There’s a good chance you’ll soon be attending a Christmas drinks party, and perhaps you’ll also have a Christmas hamper pushed under your nose. Christmas hampers are always a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes they’re sad affairs, while sometimes your employer decides to be wonderfully generous. What will be in yours this year? There’s one thing you probably won’t find in it.

And that’s a bottle of wine. In traditional Christmas hampers, wine—or another form of alcohol—is becoming increasingly hard to find. We think that’s a shame. Isn’t that the thing you reach for first?

The question is: how bad is it really that you can hardly find wine in traditional Christmas hampers anymore? Because, let’s be honest… Nine times out of ten, it was plonk, right? Jan_Luhl (could that be their real name?) responds on NU.nl: ”We no longer choose hampers with wine in them, because that wine is often undrinkable. It’s usually wine that doesn’t sell, and then it disappears into the hampers”. Well, if that’s really the case, we’d rather have some extra dry cocktail nuts that you can’t stop eating. And then give the boss your best puppy-dog eyes and ask whether you might still get a bottle of Verdejo or Sauternes.
