This Restaurant Is Going Viral Because of Its Bizarre Responses to Bad Google Reviews

Being able to handle criticism is an art, as this proves once again. And especially when you own a restaurant, I imagine you have to count to ten very often. Because, well, you simply can’t please everyone… But sometimes you’ve really had enough and want to bite back. Personally, I don’t think Google Reviews is exactly the place to do that — especially when you’re the owner yourself — but it does make for hilarious content.

Eetcafé De Baron in Utrecht doesn’t let people walk all over them. A bad review? Then you’ll get one back. I do get the impression that they find it funny themselves to go viral with their responses, but honestly: it would certainly keep me from ever stopping by. But apparently that doesn’t bother the people at Eetcafé de Baron, because in their words: I should be committed.

Bizarre responses to bad reviews

At least they have plenty of inspiration for all their responses to the reviews, because they just can’t be stopped. It reminds me a little of Karen’s Diner, where you go to be treated rudely — except that here, the guests think they’re simply getting perfectly good service.

1. No, it’s mainly your children who are to blame (though I do understand that this is very frustrating for restaurant owners)

2. You’re the disappointing one, Brad.

3. You need to be able to write normal Dutch, completely error-free, otherwise the restaurant won’t let you leave anything.

4. Completely brainless…

5. Don’t you like our food? Then there is something seriously wrong with you.

6. Wow, you are boring. Far too boring to give us any revenue…

7. No idea what the guinea pig has to do with it; perhaps they had run out of inspiration after all the negativity.

8. Apparently, it’s also just a kind of humor you have to possess. Remarkable.

9. For your information: His last name is Tuigelaar. I fear they think that’s a very clever remark.

10. Picking on someone for writing poor Dutch again — even though I get the impression that their Dutch is seriously lacking if they can’t understand this review.

11. This is the only response I could genuinely chuckle at.
