This TikTok chef brilliantly cooked his way through lockdown (in a hotel room!)

What a champ! TikTok chef Jago Randles holed up for two weeks in a hotel in Vancouver during the past few months, when Canada was also in lockdown. But do you think he settled for two weeks of McDonald’s delivery, or takeaway meals at all? Nope. Jago, as a chef with cooking running through his veins, found a very special solution to the lack of a kitchen…

No, you wouldn’t survive on a desert island with these skills, because you do need electricity. But just look at how bizarrely creative this chef was, cooking complete meals for himself for two weeks using nothing but the few household appliances his hotel room provided! An iron, a mini kettle and a coffee maker: Jago simply MacGyvered a kitchen setup out of them.
Two weeks of cooking with three hotel appliances
Lifestyle site Ladbible posted Jago’s complete cooking repertoire from that period as a video on Facebook, which you can see below. It does last five minutes, though—but hey, he was there for WEEKS… And it really is impressive!
Hotel staff not amused
Naturally, this prompted plenty of reactions, including from people working in the hotel industry. They were pretty furious and strongly advised future guests not to make chicken tacos on the iron, for example, or cook a bacon-wrapped chicken breast sous vide in the coffee maker. Okay, we promise that we’ll happily eat in the restaurant at a hotel as soon as that’s possible again. But we do think Jago’s ingenuity is impressive—and hilarious!
