Tips & tricks

This wrap-folding hack is going viral, and we totally get why

wraps

There’s a good chance you’ve already come across this hack (because the internet has embraced it as if the first bread slicer had descended from heaven), but damn, it really is a good one! From now on, you’ll never have to worry about red-hot, dripping cheese falling from the bottom of your wrap straight onto your bare legs again (at least, not all those people who sit behind their laptops every day in a Zoom-appropriate blouse and underwear/boxers). Because with this trick, you keep everything neatly folded inside your wrap!

It’s truly a trick that shines in its simplicity (we previously wrote about toaster tortillas as one of the TikTok culinary hits of 2020), but for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, it’s a real eye-opener:

How to make the TikTok wrap or tortilla hack

Take a wrap or tortilla and four ingredients; for a savory version, definitely include something melty and cheesy, and for a sweet one, go wild with something spreadable like Nutella. Make a cut from the bottom edge of the tortilla straight to the center. Divide the four ingredients, placing each one in its own quarter. Now fold the bottom-left quarter closed and upward, then fold it over a quarter-turn to the right, and once more a quarter-turn downward. Place the folded parcel in a hot frying pan or a sandwich press or contact grill, and cook until the outside is beautifully golden brown and everything inside is warm and melted. Ridiculously delicious, and ridiculously simple.

From savory with cheese to sweet with Nutella

Sure, a savory cheese version is basically a quesadilla variation, but without open edges at the sides where everything drips out, and you can decide entirely for yourself what you’d like to put in it. I made one with sauerkraut, bacon, grated Appenzeller® cheese and spinach, and it was gone before there was even time to get a camera involved. We’ve also seen them (of course) in a Mexican version with cheese, jalapeños, black beans, guacamole and tomato; vegan with mushrooms, vegan cheese, za’atar oil and chopped nuts; and sweet with (white!) Nutella, banana, strawberry and peanut butter. You do you! It is recommended, however, that you use good-quality soft tortillas. You don’t want them to tear or have that dusty, stale factory flavor. So, what do you think—are you joining in on this hype? We believe you won’t regret it!
