Top chef Lucas Rive dies

Today, after a short illness, chef Lucas Rive passed away at the age of 57. At 27, Lucas Rive was the youngest two-Michelin-star chef in the Netherlands.

Lucas was associated with restaurant De Bokkedoorns in Overveen for more than 27 years, where he had two Michelin stars to his name for 22 years as chef de cuisine. In 2013 he decided to follow his heart and open a restaurant in Hoorn together with his wife Deborah. Their informal haute cuisine restaurant Lucas Rive was awarded a Michelin star within five months.
Happy guests
For Lucas, it was not the lists and stars that mattered, but the appreciation of his guests, whom he wanted to give an unforgettable evening.
Delicious without fuss
Some time ago, we asked Lucas what he considered a great new restaurant. “Carstens in Amsterdam is an urban brasserie where they cook with ingredients from Dutch soil,” he said at the time. “Accessible dishes such as boerenkoolstamppot and other Dutch dishes are transformed here into creative dishes that are still genuinely delicious and without fuss. I really like that. All the wines on Carstens’ menu also have a Dutch connection. A great addition to Amsterdam in a beautiful building.”
We will miss him.
