Tribute to Dieuwertje Blok: chocolate letter D back on sale

After Dieuwertje Blok’s death, illustrator Björn Remmerswaal came up with a beautiful idea: bring the chocolate letter D back to the shelves as a tribute. Tony’s Chocolonely jumped on board, and within 24 hours all 2,500 bars had sold out.

Dieuwertje Blok Sinterklaasjournaal
“When you say ‘Dieuwertje Blok,’ you naturally think of Sinterklaasjournaal. And when you say Sinterklaasjournaal, you think of chocolate letters. She radiated something that resonated with many of us: a sense of connection, care and warmth. Many people saw her as a kind of mother figure,” Björn told RTL Nieuws.
Tony’s Chocolonely donates
Last Monday, it was announced that Dieuwertje Blok had died on Sunday evening. The presenter, known among other things for Sinterklaasjournaal, had cancer and was 67 years old. Her death affected many people.
With the initiative to bring back the chocolate letter D, Tony’s Chocolonely decided to donate the proceeds to KWF Kankerbestrijding. The campaign raised more than 10,000 euros.
Although the supply of D’s has now run out, it is still possible to donate to KWF. A small gesture with a major impact, exactly the kind of thing that would suit Dieuwertje.
