Try These Food Combinations If You’ve Lost Your Sense of Taste Due to COVID

March 2020: I was at home with COVID. I didn’t see anyone for three and a half weeks. What. A. NIGHTMARE. Seriously, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, and if you had COVID with few symptoms: count yourself lucky. It really isn’t any fun, and besides the fact that I hadn’t felt so alone in ages, the joy of eating had also been taken away from me.

Because I couldn’t taste ANYTHING. And I can tell you that made me feel even lonelier, because if you can’t even enjoy food anymore, what’s the point of anything?

Anyone fancy some baby food with sardines?

Well, you do end up coming up with the most unusual combinations. I’m not exactly a daredevil, by the way. I mainly got my little moments of happiness from Thai takeaway, because I could feel on my tongue that it was spicy. Yes, those were the highlights of those three and a half weeks: a proper green curry. Sad, I know.

But check out this guy. He takes a very different approach. Toothpaste with orange juice, a raw onion from two days ago, vinegar, Oreo cookies with wasabi (what?!), baby food with sardines—I’m already feeling sick while writing this—but he tops it all off with some mustard. Anchovies with capers and, of course, a raw clove of garlic as well. It’s absolutely disgusting. And he wolfs it down as if it’s nothing. See for yourself, but only if you’re ready to say goodbye to your appetite.
