Unfortunately, the McRib is (still) not coming back to the Netherlands
The plea from Eke Bosman, our trusted Snackspert, was in vain: even with three thousand signatures, he couldn’t persuade McDonalds to put the McRib on the menu in the Netherlands as well. But the call for the McRib’s return is growing stronger and stronger.
In mid-July, the Snackspert went on holiday to Germany. And while other tourists visit gemütliche Stubes and romantic beer gardens, Bosman also stopped by McDonalds during his trip to our eastern neighbors. There, he rediscovered the McRib, a snack that was also on the menu in the Netherlands for a while. For those who have missed it until now, what is the McRib? Bosman: ‘A genuinely freshly baked dish. One that burns your fingertips, one that hasn’t just been warmed up a little.’ Snackspert sees the sandwich as proof ‘that McDonalds really can do better.’
Thousands of ecstatic fans
Once home, he started a petition to bring the McRib back to the Netherlands as well. There was plenty of media attention and hundreds—no, thousands—of fans signed his petition. Surely McDonald’s would have to give in, you’d think! An invitation to headquarters, a red carpet and, of course, sincere apologies for making us do without that delicious McRib in the Netherlands for so long. Did it happen that way? Not really. ‘I got a question on Instagram asking whether they could send me something,’ says Snackspert. And it was… 24 vouchers for McRibs, redeemable in Germany.

McRevolution
Snackspert is now giving those vouchers away through his Instagram account. He’s quite satisfied with that, by the way. ‘It’s the least they could do, right?’ According to him, McDonalds may well be shooting itself in the foot with this generous gift. ‘What they don’t realize is that they’re now introducing even more people to the McRib—in other words, even more people will discover that it really needs to come back to the Netherlands.’ The revolution starts here; Eke isn’t giving up.
