Dirk has been known for years as one of the cheapest supermarkets in our country. The October 2024 issue of the Consumentengids confirms it once again. The latest price comparison showed that Dirk came out on top again as the most affordable, this time for fruit and vegetables. At Dirk, you pay no less than 13% less than average!

Last year, Dirk lowered the prices of hundreds of everyday groceries. And it is paying off. Earlier this year, the Consumentenbond proved that Dirk is also the cheapest place for basic groceries and organic groceries. Cha-ching!

Buying fruit and vegetables

Of course, you can find a wide variety of vegetables and fruit in many supermarkets all year round. It is better to buy seasonal produce. Vegetables and fruit grown in open ground, under a plastic tunnel or in an unheated greenhouse each have a period every year when they are ready to be harvested. In the Netherlands, these include strawberries in spring and summer and Jerusalem artichokes in winter. During the period when they are harvested and sold, they are seasonal produce.

Seasonal vegetables and seasonal fruit

Would you like to know which vegetables and fruit are currently in season? In November, these include endive, artichoke, aubergine, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, courgette, celeriac, cucumber, mushrooms, pumpkin, radish, savoy cabbage, runner bean, Brussels sprouts, tomato, fennel, chicory and carrot.
