Want to try it: the smashburger

Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, known in mayonnaise as Eke Bosman, tells you where to get the best snacks, from shawarma rolls to lihanboutjes. This week, Snackspert once again had a juicy burger—well, a proper smashburger—and he is wildly enthusiastic.

Hamburgers with a tight, round shape that have been pressed very flat: that is a real smashburger. The advantages of such a flattened burger: crispy edges, a better meat-to-bun ratio, and the fact that you can fit more than one between the buns. And at this new burger joint in Amsterdam, they have perfected the smashburger down to the last detail.

Just giving you a 5-star review because you deserve it. Because I found it: a smashburger joint comparable to Dumbo in Paris—the place where I ate the best smashburger ever. Amsterdam has had a new joint called Le Smash for a little while now, right in the middle of De Pijp. And my goodness, what a chunk of love this burger is. What makes it so incredibly good is that the patty (the meat) is tender on the inside, but crispy around the edges. That gives it a better mouthfeel, and if you don’t believe me; surely you’ve encountered bad French kissers in this world too? Well, this is like a super horny French kiss. And that ketchup with a little mustard, too—not too sweet, not too sharp, perfectly balanced. Good choice not to add any (watery) tomato, and to put the onions on the burger in tiny pieces. That cheddar? It melts even better than a Calippo left outside when it’s 32 degrees. The bun? Toasted wonderfully. Yum. In other words: get yourself to Le Smash this weekend, before it gets too busy there. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
