Watch tip: this new culinary docuseries takes you to the most remote restaurants in the world

It’s that time of year again: long, gloomy days and dreary weather. Days when you dream of the most exotic locations while curling up on the sofa to watch a good series. Luckily, National Geographic is launching a new series about adventurous travel and delicious food just now!

Who wouldn’t want to travel all over the world to visit the most beautiful locations and create the tastiest dishes? In the series Restaurants at the End of the World chef Kristen Kish lives this dream and… she’s taking us along.
The most remote places in the world
Kristen Kish is an award-winning chef and entrepreneur – she once took part in the show Top Chef (which she won) and has built a true empire ever since. In this new series, she travels to four of the most remote places in the world to immerse herself in the culture and search for secret ingredients that are often difficult to find. In short, she is looking for the heart of the cuisines of these extraordinary places.
Challenging locations
In the four-part series, Kristen visits Svalbard, among other places, as well as a mountain town in Panama and North Haven Island, where only a few hundred people live. There, she meets local chefs. Because of the challenging environments in which these chefs work, they are constantly forced to improvise and adapt their menus to what is available. So you won’t find standard carpaccio or beef tenderloin on the menu here; the dishes Kristen creates with the chefs range from reindeer tongues to buttermilk biscuits with lobster salad and kimchi sorbet.

Adventure of a lifetime
The filming made a deep impression on Kristen. ‘Filming this series was the adventure of a lifetime; it taught me so many new things about an industry I have been working in all my life. Food has the extraordinary power to bring us closer together and teach us about one another and the world around us. I was able to experience this myself by visiting restaurants in the most remote places in the world. The programme features dishes and restaurants we didn’t know existed.’ It’s sure to be a feast!
The docuseries Restaurants at the End of the World will be shown every week from Tuesday, 1 April at 5:00 PM on National Geographic.
