Weekend tip: lunch or dinner at the Daalder pop-up restaurant at Haute Photographie

Daalder pop-up Museumplein

Dennis Huwaë of Daalder never sits still. And fortunately so, because everything he does is delicious. Such as the pop-up restaurant from Daalder during Haute Photographie, the boutique photography fair on Museumplein in Amsterdam. If you don’t have any plans for this weekend yet, it’s hard to imagine a better weekend tip.

People often ask me about my favorite restaurants or cuisines in Amsterdam. Daalder is one of them. I think Dennis is a fantastic chef with an amazing team. Daalder now has a star, but in the kitchen they’re still rock stars, averse to stiffness and solemn fuss. And then there are the dishes they make… Even from the small kitchen at Haute Photographie, you’ll be blown away by the wonderful and refined flavors.

Haute Photographie

For those who don’t know Haute Photographie (yet), the 1,000 m² boutique photography fair brings photographers and art lovers together in the backyard of the city’s most important place when it comes to art: the Rijksmuseum. In the middle of Museumplein, near the Moco Museum, you’ll find works by masters from the history of photography as well as work by exciting new talents—and everything you see is available to buy here in limited editions.

Signature satay ayam amuse-bouche

From September 15 through 18, Daalder will have a pop-up restaurant among the framed photographs. Naturally, Daalder’s signature dish will make an appearance: the brilliant and incredibly delicious satay ayam amuse-bouche. Brilliantly shaped like a peanut, this bite, which you pop into your mouth whole, tastes like satay ayam as you eat it in Indonesia—and always long for when the barbecue is fired up somewhere. Its delicious ceviche, lasagna and pigeon are also on the menu.

Double the indulgence

For Ajax fans, it’s an especially delicious treat; this year marks exactly 50 years since Ajax won every trophy in a single year (1972): the national championship, the cup, the European Cup 1, the World Cup and the Super Cup. During Haute Photographie on Museumplein, where Ajax has been honored many times, you can admire a unique photo collection—and the one and only European Cup 1 trophy will be on display.

Let the weekend begin

Daalder serves a three- or four-course lunch menu from 12:00 to 15:30, consisting of an amuse-bouche, three courses (€75) or four courses (€89), with or without wine, and including S.Pellegrino sparkling water, Acqua Panna mineral water and coffee. In the evening, a six-course chef’s menu (€125) is on the program, with arrivals between 18:30 and 19:30. You can reserve here for Daalder on Museumplein.
