What to make with your BBQ leftovers

barbecue leftovers

You know the feeling: you’ve spent the whole weekend barbecuing in the sun, but your eyes were bigger than your stomach and now you’re stuck with thirty kilos of leftovers. Eating satay for the rest of the week, then? No way! Just transform them into an entirely new showstopper of a meal. Here’s how.

Hamburgers

Turn your leftover hamburger into comforting sloppy Joe sandwiches. In the United States, these are often made with canned meat, but we prefer to make them with fresh ground beef. Still have hamburger buns left over? Keep reading, because you can turn them into a delicious breakfast.

Steak

Cooked a little too much steak? No problemo. Whether you have to go back to work the next day or have the day off, you’ll have a delicious steak salad for the next day. Is that convenient or what? This steak salad is so delicious that next time you’ll deliberately cook some extra.

Chicken

Had a few too many drinks yesterday? A grilled cheese sandwich is the perfect hangover meal. Make it with your leftover chicken. You’ll have to shred the chicken first, though. But with such a generously filled sandwich, even you will make it through the day. Or make stuffed fajitas or tacos with chicken in the evening. Warning: there’s a good chance your friends will come over for dinner again tonight.

Pasta salad

A pasta salad is essential at a barbecue. So there’s a good chance you made one and still have some left over. Lunch for the next day, it is. You may not have thought of it right away, but pasta salad is the ideal filling for a wrap. After all, it already contains vegetables, sauce and (often) some kind of protein. Everything you need for a generously filled wrap.

Vegetables

You can make a hearty vegetable soup with the vegetables that are left over. Mix everything together or, for example, make a creamy grilled zucchini soup. Bring on that vitamin boost!

Hamburger buns

You can even make a delicious sweet breakfast with your BBQ leftovers. Replace regular bread with the leftover hamburger buns and make delicious French toast. With lots and lots of syrup, of course.

Spareribs or fish

Making nachos is always a good idea. And when it comes to nachos, our motto is: more is more. A mountain of cheese, tortilla chips and vegetables (from the BBQ too?) isn’t enough. So throw your leftover shrimp skewers (without the skewers, duh) or your sparerib meat on your nachos. And we can assure you: nacho last time you’ll be making this.

Fries

If there are any fries left over or there were fries to begin with, we have the solution. Of course, we’re not going to reheat yesterday’s fries. But how about making a delicious Spanish tortilla with them? Yes. A Spanish tortilla is somewhere between a frittata and a quiche, and it also means you don’t have to throw away your fries. Three cheers for preventing food waste.

Baguette

Baguette is the ideal solution for your hangry guests. Give them some baguette with herb butter and voilà, they’re satisfied. At least for a little while. Because once the meat hits the table, they’ll quickly forget about your baguette. Luckily, you can turn it into delicious croutons the next day. That gives both your baguette and herb butter a purpose.
