Why Corrie is waitress of the month every month
Yesssss! It’s almost time: on June 1, at exactly 12:00 p.m., the hospitality industry will open again! Finally, we can enjoy sitting on a terrace again—or rather, a gigantic terrace, because in Amsterdam, but also in Utrecht and Nijmegen, for example, the terraces are getting bigger than ever.
The municipalities of these cities are giving hospitality entrepreneurs room to expand their existing terraces, so they can still accommodate enough guests while complying with the 1.5-meter measures. There is no maximum number of people on terraces, but everyone must sit at a table and keep 1.5 meters apart (except pairs and people from the same household). Of course, you then need a waitress who can cover all that ground to bring you a chilled beer. Enter: Corrie.
Corrie is more than a trolley dolly
For Bar Kantoor in Amsterdam, Corrie is what a trolley is for Jonnie Boer, only even more efficient: Corrie is the corona-proof colleague, the waitress who makes sure you can easily maintain that one-and-a-half-meter distance. In the kitchen, orders are placed on Corrie, after which a Bar Kantoor employee steers Corrie to the right table. Guests can then take their order from Corrie themselves. The great thing about Corrie, besides her efficiency: “She’s gender-neutral, doesn’t judge awkward Tinder dates and has a maximum serving capacity of 1.5 square meters of beer spread across the lower and upper decks,” says creator and maker Aline Mannes.
Last week, the team had a lesson in operating Corrie. “We’re very happy with our new addition; people are responding enthusiastically, passersby have to laugh and the reservations are pouring in,” says Aline.
Now just check whether there’s room
Are you now itching to storm the terrace, but worried that there won’t be a table available? The hospitality boss in question (because come on, they really are bosses) can very easily mark it red or green, making it clear what each color means. If it’s red, look for another spot.
