Why people swear by muesli or cornflakes with orange juice

This combination really gives me the shivers, but some people don’t eat anything else in the morning. Cereal, in other words breakfast cereal, with orange juice instead of milk. Now I have to admit that I’m not a big milk lover either, so this was never really my kind of breakfast anyway. But still: who actually likes this?! I did a little research.

And that wasn’t too difficult, because not only does FavorFlav’s Sharon’s father swear by it (he’s the same man who was already wearing ‘dad shoes’ when ‘dad shoes’ officially didn’t exist yet, yes, we’re dealing with an accidental trendsetter here), actress Bella Ramsey (known from the HBO series The Last Of Us) also made the news this week for advocating this combination in online magazine The Hollywood Reporter.
‘It tastes just like Fruity Pebbles’
Never heard of Fruity Pebbles? That’s possible; they’re hugely popular in the United States but not that easy to find in the Netherlands. They’re most similar to Jumbo’s Rainbow Fruit-flavored Cornflakes or Kellogg’s Fruit Loops. So, very sweet; and Bella Ramsey takes it one step further. According to her, the ingredient that turns this into an amazing breakfast is the addition of berries.
And that’s exactly the tip she gives in response to the confused reactions: if you’re wondering how on earth this can be edible, add berries. ‘I had it for breakfast this morning,’ she responded on X after a storm of baffled reactions. And the English saying Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it seems to apply, because many people are responding: ‘I just tried the orange juice and berry cornflakes combo… Bella is simply right, I’m afraid.’
Hmm, should we give it a chance after all?
I had it for breakfast this morning.
