Gele vlekken shirt

One of the biggest annoyances in my life is stains on clothes. Now that it’s summer, my white T-shirts are the victims. The cause: yellow sweat stains. Fortunately, there are a few handy remedies that will get those stains out in no time. Remedies that are probably already in your kitchen cupboard.

As with every stain — including grease stains — it’s important to take action as quickly as possible. So don’t leave your dirty, stained shirt lying in the corner of your room for days; get started the same day. Tip: don’t put it straight in the washing machine. Even though that’s probably your first panic reaction. Sweat contains proteins that change their chemical structure when they come into contact with warm water. And the stains you get then really won’t come out anymore. So patience is key.

Baking soda

If there’s one product you should have at home, it’s baking soda. This powder has been our life saver in countless situations. When cleaning the shower, removing rings from the hob, tackling brown tea stains… And now for yellow sweat stains on clothes too. Take a small bowl and put some baking soda in it. Mix the powder with a little water until a kind of paste forms. Spread this paste over the stains on your clothes. Let it soak in for a while, put your shirt in the wash and voilà: the stains are gone. As if they had never been there.

Vinegar

Vinegar also works incredibly well if you want to get rid of those yellow stains on your clothes. Preferably use the vinegar from your cleaning cupboard; it works best. Spray the vinegar onto the stains so they’re thoroughly soaked. Then put the clothes in a bucket of water with a generous splash of vinegar. Let this soak for a few hours before putting the clothes in the washing machine and washing them on a normal cycle.

Salt for yellow sweat stains

Salt isn’t just a delicious seasoning for your dishes. It also works perfectly for getting sweat stains out of your clothes! First, dampen the sweat stains on your shirt with a little water. Then rub some salt into the stains with a tablespoon until they’re well covered. Let this soak in for about 12 hours. Then put the shirt in the washing machine and it will come out sparkling clean.
