Want to enjoy a drink, but done with the hangover? We’re hearing it more and more often. Luckily, there are increasingly more alcohol-free liquor stores. Amsterdam has even welcomed a second location of World of Nix, formerly known as Nix & Nix.

The new location is in De Pijp, at Ferdinand Bolstraat 117. Anyone who has already visited the first Amsterdam World of Nix location, at Eerste Boomdwarsstraat 63, knows what to expect. A spacious and diverse range of alcohol-free refreshments, from 0.0 specialty beers to ‘spirits’ without a drop of alcohol. And alcohol-free wines. We were initially skeptical about those, but by now we actually find them quite an interesting alternative—for when we want a hangover-free Sunday morning for a change.

A hangover-free existence

Older millennials (no offense, we’re simply not all Gen Z) and the generations below them may still remember it: the time when wine was still actually wine. And beer was actually beer. With alcohol, that is. No, alcohol-free wines and beers haven’t been popular for very long. Even though the first alcohol-free beer came onto the market back in 1918! It’s only in recent years that alcohol-free drinks have been on the rise. We simply don’t want the hangover to hit later. So more and more alcohol-free alternatives are becoming available, and their quality—and therefore their taste—is improving too.

What to drink?

The fact that alcohol-free drinks are hot isn’t only evident from the growing number of alcohol-free liquor stores. Wine journalist Esmee Langereis, for example, has already created an online platform for alcohol-free beers, wines and spirits: What to Drink. It now features more than 200 reviews of alcohol-free drinks. Yep, the days when Heineken 0.0 was the only option are long gone.

Besides the two World of Nix locations in Amsterdam, you can also visit World of Nix in Haarlem and Tilburg. Enjoy your headache-free weekend!
