Pulling stunts with a supermarket shopping cart: when I was a teenager, it was incredibly cool to do, because that’s how they did it in Jackass. And if Johnny Knoxville and Bam Margera did it, all the teenagers wanted to do it too. And so it happened that you regularly saw a stray shopping cart in a residential neighborhood or at a skate park.
Jackass hasn’t been nearly as popular for a long time, but it will always be my association with stray shopping carts. Those shopping carts that you find (far) outside the supermarket are still around, though. Much to the supermarkets’ frustration, because those things aren’t cheap. The shopping carts are purchased in large quantities from a supplier… And cost 250 euros each. And I have to say, I think that’s quite a hefty amount. Can’t it be cheaper? Unfortunately not; a simple Google search proves that these things are absolutely not cheap. And, of course, each one still has to be ordered in Jumbo’s colors with the logo on it.
So if you get the idea to take one of those things with you, don’t. It’s obviously not allowed anyway, but it really is an expensive joke.
