Yes, your Big Mac could soon be delivered by drone

This news sounds like a scene from Back to the Future II, in which they imagined the future just a little too futuristically. But the future is closer than you think. Your food could soon genuinely be delivered by drone. Uber Eats plans to start a trial this summer.

Game of Drones
The drones won’t be flying all around your ears; they’ll have a special landing spot. Your old, familiar Uber Eats courier will be waiting there to handle the final part of the journey. If the trial with the couriers isn’t a success, the delivery service still has a plan B. The drones can also land on self-driving Uber cars. Because yes, if we’re going to do this futuristically anyway…
Ping!
Uber Eats will never be as fast as heating up a microwave meal, but the idea is that the drone service will speed things up. Ideal for when you’re hungry and waiting on the sofa.
McDonald’s
What’s better than a Quarter Pounder meal? A flying Quarter Pounder meal, of course! Uber Eats is starting the trial with none other than our beloved Maccie. Yay! Not only have the flight routes been tested, the packaging also had to undergo a thorough inspection. Your McMenu is in for a bumpy ride, dangling from a drone. Your fries need to stay warm, your McFlurry cold, and your Big Mac must not have fallen apart before it reaches you. Rocketscience to us, but we hope Uber Eats and McDonald’s have managed it.
For now, we won’t be seeing them flying in the Netherlands (the drones, that is). The plan is to start the trial in San Diego. Whether the drones will eventually make it to the Netherlands too remains unclear.
