You can now buy smoked sausage salad for bread at Albert Heijn

The stamppot season has started again. And, of course, mashed potatoes with kale and a little well of gravy call for a smoked sausage. Juicy in a shiny casing and deliciously salty, it’s also hard to resist on its own. Is Albert Heijn’s new smoked sausage spread for bread just as tasty? We put it to the test.

When we buy a smoked sausage, we actually always get it at HEMA, as we think theirs is the tastiest. For those who prefer a smaller size, HEMA also has the mini smoked sausage. Ever wondered what exactly goes into such a huge sausage? Here’s the answer.

And the answer to the question of whether Albert Heijn’s smoked sausage spread is tasty: yes. The creamy spread mainly reminds us of a HEMA hot dog, including the sauce, but in a form you can put on bread. That’s probably due to the hint of mustard we detect in the sauce. A tasty little number, especially because of those small pieces of sausage in it.

Compared with Albert Heijn’s spare rib spread, we think this one is a real winner. Our colleague Manouk even gives it a solid 8. Looking at the ingredients on the back, we don’t believe this stuff is the very best for your health (hello, E-numbers!), but for the occasional white bread roll at lunch, or on a cracker with drinks, it does an excellent job.

There is one downside, though: we think almost three euros for a tub is rather expensive.
