You’ll want to make this today: whipped miso butter (so delicious!)

basis-boter-2

It’s an umami bomb that explodes with flavor: miso. And it’s incredibly versatile, too. From miso soup to miso chicken, you can take it in all sorts of directions. The same goes for butter. This whipped miso butter is so delicious that I’ll bet it’ll become a standard feature on your snack board.

That wonderful, savory umami flavor comes from miso’s main ingredients: fermented soybeans, koji (a mold) and grains. Salt is added to this. The mixture originally comes from Japan. There certainly isn’t just one type of miso there. No, you can taste thousands of different varieties if you want. *books ticket to Japan*

Miso butter: how to make it

Extra exciting news: you can make this butter in no time. The most important thing is that your butter is at room temperature. That way, you can whip it nice and light. Is the butter soft enough? Put it in the blender with the miso, soy sauce and sesame oil. Blend everything until you have fluffy butter. Serve immediately with crusty bread or crackers. Or put it back in the fridge if your guests haven’t arrived yet. In that case, don’t forget to take the butter out of the fridge at least half an hour before the party.

Extra toppings: a great idea!

You can make this whipped miso butter even more delicious with your favorite toppings. Kir Kookt recommends dried miso, sesame seeds, furikake, crispy chili oil (for deliciously spicy butter) or fried onions. Whatever you like best.

Part of your Butter Board

This miso butter is perfect as part of your Butter Board, in other words, the butter snack board. You can turn it into a surprisingly delicious tasting platter, for example with these 6 butters as well. Is it Friday afternoon already? No? Doesn’t matter. Any day can be snack day!
