Yuck! Is that… a finger??
There are a few scenarios, not at all unimaginable, that are a real nightmare for me. Like a disgusting pigeon flying into my face, for example. Finding a dead mouse in a bag of supermarket spinach (this really happened to someone a few years ago! – hold my hair back please while I gag). And this story, my god, definitely belongs on that list from now on:

It’ll be a long time before I dare take a carefree bite out of a hamburger again, and until then I’ll probably think of poor Estefany Benitez every time, who – I really need a sick bowl now – bit into a piece of FINGER when she took a bite…

And no, not her own finger—that wouldn’t be in the newspaper. Bolivian Benitez got her hamburger from fast-food chain Hot Burger, bit into a piece of human finger that was inside the hamburger patty on her first bite, and immediately went to confront the person responsible at the location. In a video she posted on Facebook, she can be seen suggesting that the location be closed, and what she particularly objects to is that the company then appears to simply want to continue serving other customers; business as usual.

In response to Benitez’s post, which was shared thousands of times, a spokesperson for Hot Burger stated that they have followed all necessary hygiene protocols for 21 years. But he also confirmed that an employee at the company that handles meat processing for twenty of the locations had recently lost two fingers while preparing the meat for the hamburgers…
So where is the other finger?
The location has since been closed by Bolivia’s Undersecretary for Consumer Protection, and a criminal investigation is being launched for endangering public health. The unfortunate employee of the meat-processing company who lost two fingers is receiving legal assistance. “The man lost two fingers. One ended up in a hamburger; what happened to the other one is unknown,” said the undersecretary.
And Benitez? Reportedly, she is going to speak with the owner of Hot Burger to reach an agreement on compensation. We’re curious to see what comes of it!
