Don’t feel like cooking? Here’s what (star) chefs do instead

Ever since I could talk, I’ve been asking questions. Good questions, stupid questions (because yes, those definitely do exist), strange questions and useful questions. I do the same in this feature. Ask questions. To (star) chefs. A different one every week. Not a different chef, but a different question. This week: what do you do when you don’t feel like cooking?

Michiel van der Eerde (Bar BAUT, ZUID): “I usually drive by Zuid, where they’re generally still busy for a while, and then I snack on something from the well-stocked refrigerator.”
Jacob Jan Boerma (formerly De Leest ***): “Never experienced it!”
Pascal Jalhay: “Then I go out to eat. It’s been a very long time since I got takeout or had something delivered. If I eat at home, I want to have cooked it myself.”
Soenil Bahadoer (De Lindehof **): “Sure, that does happen from time to time. When I have a lot on my mind, I think, to hell with it. Then I go to a local little restaurant; usually I pick something up from a Cantonese restaurant nearby.”
Joris Bijdendijk (RIJKS *): “Then I get roti from New Draver in Amsterdam East.”
Edwin Vinke (De Kromme Watergang **): “Then we go out to a restaurant.”
Schilo van Coevorden (Conservatorium Hotel): “Chinese, Chinese, Chinese. I think I was Chinese in a previous life too. Well, a Dutch Chinese person, because I go for a container of nasi, satay and babi pangang. Of course, that has nothing to do with China. There’s a good one on Kostverlorenhof in Amstelveen, Yu Woah, and in Amstelveen Westwijk there’s A Taste of Szechuan; that’s very good too.”
Freek van Noortwijk (including Breda, Guts, Maris Piper): “Then I order something or make some instant noodles, add spring onion, spinach and bean sprouts, and you have a perfectly good meal.”
Sergio Herman (including The Jane**, Pure C**, Frites Atelier): “Like everyone else, I drive somewhere to get a pizza or pick up some Lebanese food.”
Onno Kokmeijer and Arjan Speelman (Ciel Bleu**): “Go out to eat.”
