In the editorial office, we swear by a classic ham and cheese grilled sandwich, but you should definitely try this recipe for a grilled cheese with Gruyère and red wine too. Because it’s delicious!

For this grilled cheese with Gruyère and red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, preferably), you’ll also need a tablespoon of butter, half a finely chopped red onion, a finely chopped garlic clove, a little thyme, rosemary, and a tablespoon of flour.

How to make a grilled cheese with Gruyère and red wine

Melt the butter in a pan and add the finely chopped red onion. After a few minutes, add the garlic, thyme and rosemary. Fry for a few more minutes, then add the tablespoon of flour.

Pour 180 milliliters of wine into the roux and reduce until the sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Taste to check whether the alcohol flavor has disappeared.

Spread the mixture over the two slices of white bread and top with grated Gruyère. Add some butter to the pan and fry the grilled cheese until golden brown on both sides. And we don’t need to tell you what to drink with it afterward, do we?
