10 products supermarket employees find really weird
Supermarket employees are sometimes left speechless when customers ask for a product they have never heard of. Did you know these products existed, or do you ever buy them yourself?
Weird supermarket products according to supermarket employees
A walk around the supermarket… you often come across some pretty strange things. Because what on earth are all those ridiculous products doing on the shelves? And why are there so many different slices of chicken breast? No wonder that it’s not just us, but supermarket employees too, who sometimes have no idea anymore…
Cheesepop cheddar
When my anonymous source sent me a photo of this product, I really had to look twice. WTF is this?! So, they’re puffed Cheddar cheese balls. And now I can hear you thinking, ‘when do you eat this?’ According to the description, they’re delicious straight out of the packet (gag) with drinks or as a topping — okay, I do understand that last one.
Liquid egg whites
Fit girls, take note! Apparently, you can buy a bottle of egg whites — yes, you read that right: liquid egg whites. They also have a long shelf life. Ideal if you want to eat lots of protein without gaining weight. But please don’t put your mouth on the bottle when I’m around, okay?
Snack bacon
Snack bacon. I don’t know whether it’s the name or the fact that it looks like the food you give a dog, but I understand why my anonymous source directed her customer to the pet food section when they asked for snack bacon.
Beef bar
‘Do you know where the beef bars are?’ No, this isn’t dog food either, but simply for humans. High in protein — that’s this beef bar, made from beef, obviously.
Pizza sausage roll
A pizza sausage roll — no, you wouldn’t expect to find that on the pizza shelf, would you? But there it was, and this Jumbo gimmick turned out to be a huge hit too. Would you like to try it?
Chio Käseln
Cheese chips with holes in them — nothing wrong with that, right? But if you work in a supermarket and someone seriously asks where the Chio Käseln are, how often do you think you’d have to ask, ‘excuse me?’
Warm hummus?
This actually sounds absolutely delicious! Hummus that’s slightly warm, mmmm. But poor Nina really had no idea where to look when a customer asked her where the ‘heatable hummus’ was. I’m mainly wondering why this is so much more expensive than regular hummus. But I’m definitely going to try it.
Sour mussels
Thomas genuinely thought he was being pranked when a customer asked him for sour mussels. ‘We only sell fresh mussels,’ he tried. But it turns out you can buy cooked Zeeland mussels in natural vinegar. Thomas doesn’t understand it at all: ‘Do people really buy this?’
Canned snails
Escargots from a tin — how can you ruin a French delicacy? By putting it in packaging like that. My anonymous source spontaneously felt sick when she saw this. Anna: ‘How absolutely disgusting, those poor snails completely cramped into a tin like that,’ I didn’t know we sold this.
Herba what?
Don’t ask a supermarket employee where to find Herbamare, because I bet nobody knows. But as it happens, we have someone from Zeeland working in the office who swears by it. She sprinkles it over absolutely everything and I have to say: it’s delicious! It is a shame I lost ten euros to her, though..
