10 x Deliciously Gross #5

We already announced that this source is the gift that keeps on giving, because everyone simply loves guilty pleasures. The list of things that are simultaneously gross and amazing just doesn’t stop; hence number 5 in the Deliciously Gross series!

Ready-made cheese fondue
Admittedly, it’s only truly ready with half a carton of Liebfraumilch in it, to make you genuinely nostalgic for the old days with your friends around a shabby kitchen table. And don’t come along with crudités or anything, okay? White baguette it shall be. And then, against all the rules, scrape the last baked-on bits out of the pan with the little metal fork.

McDonald’s chicken nuggets
‘Do twelve chicken pieces’, while not really having a clear idea of what exactly you’re standing there eating. But that could also be due to the drunken state in which you generally think these kinds of ideas are a brilliant plan.
Grill sausage with cheese
Such a soggy roll of meat with yellow bits… Why on earth is that so damn delicious on a white bread roll with mayo and mustard?

Frikandel rolls
The microwave version from Mora topped the list, but honestly, a whole string of sausage-in-bread varieties came up when we asked colleagues what they found gross and delicious at the same time. ‘HEMA hot dog! Sausage roll! Brabant sausage roll!’ you yelled, so now we know: it runs really deep, guys.
Jelly roll
It has to come from the supermarket and cost next to nothing – especially no effort, so forget your attempts to neatly roll up such a cake sheet with jam inside yourself.

Bifi sausage
This one isn’t in a sandwich, so it deserves its very own place in the ranking. Extremely salty, chewy, and something utterly primitive in our human species makes us want to tear off big pieces with our front teeth.
Chips with mayo
No, there’s actually no further explanation. Long ago, perhaps you would sometimes stir a packet of Duyvis Poestapoeder (don’t judge) into a dollop of mayo together with your mother, and then you had a cozy little dip for Friday-night movie time. Well, you don’t even need to do that here! Literally recorded: “just a bag of plain chips with a bowl of mayo”. Okaaay! Enjoy yourself, girl, we’re not judging either.
DIY tompouce kit
This really comes close to the wallpaper-paste experience: add some water, and powdery substances transform within seconds into sticky, creamy gloop. Fascinating. Spread it between ready-made puff pastry layers, and although it will never hold a candle to the HEMA classic, at least you made this one yourself. Ish.
Cheesedippers
Just to prove once again that many guilty pleasures have a direct correlation with childhood nostalgia: dipping miniature breadsticks into something that is basically just spreadable cheese. And then being very happy.
Shawarma sandwich
Another major player in the ‘this seemed like such a good idea last night’ ranking. That knowing look between you and the man with the garlic-sauce squirter, as you encouragingly nod your chin down once more. Priceless.
