10 x food that’s disgustingly delicious #10

Vodka-energy ijsje Waterijsjes met alcohol. Dat wil je. En dan vooral de vodka-energy variant. Energy drink is sowieso ultiem vies-lekker, laat staan in de vorm van een ijsje met vodka!

As cool as we sometimes (or rather: quite often) like to be about food, we all have a soft spot for stuff that’s disgusting and delicious at the same time. But it’s not just us—so do you! These are our favorite disgustingly delicious snacks, and yours too! Is your guilty pleasure among them?

Tzatziki chips

Available during Greek weeks at Lidl: with tzatziki chips, we bring a little Greece into our homes. The editorial team was absolutely delighted with this find. Tzatziki! In chip form! Is it delicious? Is it disgusting? A little of both. It tastes like a mix of chives and sour cream and onion—and there’s nothing wrong with that. They’re wonderfully moreish, but they don’t actually taste like tzatziki, and after half a bag we feel queasy. In short: a perfectly disgustingly delicious snack!

Liège waffle with curry sauce

Those little squares in Liège waffles aren’t just for decoration, people—they can hold all sorts of things. How about curry sauce? Or an even bigger showstopper: Russian salad. Yes, you have to think of it—and, more importantly, dare to try it. And yet we get it: sweet and sour, that kind of contrast can create a true flavor explosion. Thank you, dear reader, for this exciting lunch revelation!

Liverwurst and sprinkles

Why choose between a cheese sandwich and a chocolate sprinkles sandwich when you can put them both on one sandwich? Nothing human is strange to us, but the combination of chocolate sprinkles and liverwurst did make us hesitate for a moment. And yet it can get even more extravagant: “My mother always made a party sandwich. A sandwich with cheese, liverwurst, peanut butter and chocolate sprinkles! I thought my brother and I were the only ones who liked it. People think we’re crazy!” But it turns out that more people enjoy it, judging by the enthusiastic comments on this top combination. Will you try it too?

Macaroni with applesauce

Very tasty if you’re under six and/or have just had your wisdom teeth removed. But actually, we find it a little questionable. Macaroni delicious? Yes. Applesauce delicious? Yes. Macaroni with applesauce delicious? Yes, but also genuinely a little disgusting…

Cheese and chocolate

A sandwich with chocolate spread and cheese—or even better: dark chocolate sprinkles and cheese. The saltiness, the sweetness, the crunch! Maybe not even disgustingly delicious, just really, really delicious. And yet some colleagues are horrified by it…

Gingerbread with salami

No, no, immediately throw all your prejudices out the window. This is a real gem!

Fried egg with blue cheese

In the drunk-food category. A fried egg with blue cheese. Sounds gross? It is. But somehow it isn’t, either. Once, while drunk, this was the best idea ever. Especially with a pungent blue cheese. Wonderfully strong in flavor—and it gets rid of your hangover in one go. Meow!

Vodka-energy ice pop

Ice pops with alcohol. Your suspicion is correct: you want this. Especially the vodka-energy version. Energy drink is already the ultimate in disgustingly delicious, let alone in the form of an ice pop with vodka. It goes down wonderfully. All summer long. Want to make it even more exciting? Try Kesbeke’s vodka pickle ice pop.

Satay sauce

No, don’t cheat by using a homemade, fancy sauce. We’re talking about ready-made satay sauce here, because it’s a real crowd-pleaser. I know someone who never goes on vacation without a tub of Wijko satay sauce in her suitcase. And she’s not alone. Chicken wings, frikandels or cucumber: everything gets dipped in satay sauce.

Chocolate custard with apple

Upgrade your dessert! A Granny Smith in your chocolate custard—no, really, we couldn’t have come up with it ourselves, but it’s genuinely yummy yummy and a little gross gross at the same time.
